about
// about let's build a zoo
Let's Build a Zoo is a zoo management sim for PC, Switch, Xbox, and Playstation 4/5 released in 2021/2022. It combines tycoon style management simulation with a morality system and semi-real science, all with adorable pixel art. Build and decorate your zoo, raise and care for animals, splice DNA together to create new species, collect all the variants, hire staff, and eventually (potentially) create a fully self-sustaining zoo ecosystem!
Let's Build a Zoo was developed by Springloaded and published by No More Robots.
I could list out all the features of the game, but some notable features that I really appreciate are:
- You're encouraged to hire for diversity, and in fact there are quests around this.
- You can eventually work toward lab-grown meat for your hamburger stands, you can create farms to raise the crops to feed your animals, and have some pretty cool eco-practices going on in your zoo.
- Decorating in games can be fun or tedious - I love decorating in this game!
- The amount of buildings and things to research is staggering - there is enough content to keep you occupied for a LOT of hours
- The morality system is a blast - can't wait for the potential to create both versions of zoos!
- There's a dinosaur DLC.
gene splicing
One of the main features of the game is that you can use CRISPR (yes, that CRISPR) to gene splice your animals. This will attract more visitors but also create absurd and adorable combinations. It also encourages you to collect all 10 variants of every single animal you can have in your zoo. If you're a completionist like me, this will be either a blessing or a curse.
