Been renting VHS tapes from Kim's Video, which I just found out about a few weeks ago. So far we've watched: Necronomicon: Tales of the Dead (actually not as bad as I thought it would be, great special effects), Night on the Galactic Railroad (slow, contemplative, beautiful), and Unholy Rollers (terrible! but somehow edited by Martin Scorsese???). We're picking tapes based on vibes alone - no looking anything up - just like the good ol' days. Popping the tape into the VCR and settling down for a movie night feels like more of an event than just scrolling through some streaming service. 10/10 perfect vibes.
I can't believe we're already halfway through August. I'm making a list of all the things I want to do before summer is out:
- Go to the beach
- Roller skate at the rink
- Go to a rooftop bar
- Watch a movie on the projector outside, preferably with friends
- Go for a long hike with friends
Other things about summer: the sweaty feeling you have when you have to shower 1.5 times per day, Mister Softee trucks on every corner, windows flung open in the mornings and evenings, the smells of the city (both good and terrible), feeling like you can go anywhere at anytime without any thought or planning or coats, putting hot spoons on mosquito bites to make the itch go away, long long long walks, really feeling like there are almost 10 million people in the city and somehow they're all right next to me.
